| WHAT IS THE YEAR OF PRESENTATION ? |
So, when the Madden Planet editorial team sat down at the end of 2007 and tried to figure out what we wanted EA to bring to their games most in 2008 - not only Madden but all of the games developed by EA Sports - we decided that presentation was the biggest and most important.
Now, before you get any funny ideas that we don't care about gameplay, you're wrong... we care about it as much as you do. What's a game without decent gameplay ? Who cares about all the peripheral experiences in a game if the core gameplay isn't up to the required standard. But since the move to "next-gen" consoles, the leap in graphics hasn't been matched in any one area of the game less than in presentation.
And that includes gameplay, where in many cases EA have really made big improvements of late - especially when you think about FIFA 08 and NHL 08.
Of all the suggestions, criticisms, reviews and requests that we read about on our forums,, by far the most popular is the issue of presentation. And we're not just talking about pretty overlays and color commentary - we're talking about the crowd in the game, the stadiums, the hype and the excitement ... the atmosphere, the sense of occasion and the overall gameday experience whatever the sport happens to be.
So, we decided that we'd use this opportunity to lay down exactly what we want to see brought to the table in terms of presentation in 2008 so that we, the consumers, can get our ideas and suggestions across to the development teams.
Over the next few months plan to post a bunch of articles where we will highlight and suggest different ways in which the presentation of the current portfolio of sports titles can be improved. And check the top right side of this page for ways in which you can add your suggestions and ideas. |
