   MP Madden 08 Ladder

Ladder Notes
The forum thread for administering this ladder is here.

So if you guys read the other thread, you know what the ladder is... but basically, it is just something that I kind of quickly threw together that is a editable database with ranks on it. It can be edited by members, but each person in the ladder has to have some responsibility, it's running on the presumption that we're going to trust everybody who uses it. I'll be PMing everybody a password to the ladder page which will let them edit it, view it, and so on. Without the password you will not be able to access it. If anybody would like to join the ladder (who hasn't already in the other thread), they can post in this thread and I'll add them. You will be added at the bottom of the ladder and I will PM you the password.

Basically, the way that this ladder works is that all of the entrants are initially ranked by their Gamerscore as of today. The initial ranking does not really matter because once you play a game, it'll change, and if you don't play then you'll be overcome by other players.

A ladder, in essence, rewards players for beating players who rank near the top of the ladder. If you are ranked near the bottom and you beat somebody near the top, you will move up more rungs on the ladder than if you play an opponent near your ranking. Ladders do not penalize for not playing, so if you get bored of the game, it isn't really a problem -- eventually you will be surpassed by players who continue to play. Additionally, if two people are "in cahoots" and one player continually loses to the other to move the other guy up the ladder, eventually, it just won't make much of a difference and the other player will either move up very slowly or not move at all. There is no challenge system other than just X-Box Live, or whatever, if you play somebody then it's a game, if you don't then it doesn't matter -- if somebody only plays one or two games, eventually they'll just drop down to the bottom rungs while those who play more will be up there.

This is very much so a BETA and I will be working on it to improve the system over the coming days and weeks. Ideally I would like to have some reward system for people who stay at the top for extended periods of time, but I'm not going to code that in.

I will be posting the link as soon as I have all of the entrants entered in there. We should post all game results in this thread so that if somebody makes a mistake entering the results of a game, they can be double checked. Also, this is running on the honor of all of those involved. After you play a game online, the two players should agree who will update the ladder, one of them should post the results and update the ladder with the relevant information.

Couple rules
* Only official, completed games count. This is a private ladder, so just don't pull the plug. If you do, we'll just remove you and you'll live in scorn
* Play for fun. I'm not going to force any "cheese" rules or whatever, but how you both agree to play
* Record all scores in this thread
* I don't care about stats... they can be posted, but it's not necessary
* This is a ladder that is primarily for fun
* Only games against other ladder opponents count in this
* It is assumed that any game played between two ladder opponents is a ladder game, unless you have some agreement before hand, but again, it's just for fun so it doesn't matter

Notes
* The algorithm for skill is the following:

Winner's New Skill = [(Winners Old Skill + Losers Old Skill) / 2] + (Winners Old Rank + 2)
Losers New Skill = [(Winners Old Skill + Losers Old Skill) / 2] - Losers Old Rank
This algorithm is up for adjustment, but I think this works alright. There is a calculator on the ladder that does all of the work for you.
* This is a BETA. I am constantly working on it. It can very easily be broken... if it breaks, don't have a cow, we'll deal with it.
